1989 – Pakistan was re-admitted to the Commonwealth of Nations on the 2nd August 1989, after having restored democracy for the first time since 1972.

2005 – Air France Flight 358 landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport and run off the runway on the 2nd August 2005, causing the plane to burst into flames, leaving 12 people injured.
