MARCH 6 ~ ON THiS DAY in History

1788 – The First Fleet arrived at Norfolk Island on the 6th March 1788, in order to found a convict settlement.

1834 – YorkUpper Canada was incorporated as Toronto on the 6th March 1834.

1836 – In the Texas RevolutionBattle of the Alamo, frontiersman Davy Crockett and colonel Jim Bowie, were killed defending the Alamo on the 6th March 1836, and the fort was captured, after a 13 day siege by an army of 3,000 Mexican troops against the 187 Texas volunteers.

2010 ~ Bud Cockrell the bassist and vocalist for the Californian band Pablo Cruise died the 6th March 2010. Bud Cockrell was in the band from the start in 1973, but left in 1977 before its No.6 hit single Love Will Find A Way from their most successful album Worlds Away in 1978.
