1725 ~ GiACOMO CASANOVA the Italian adventurer and writer was born on the 2nd of April in 1725 (died in 1798 aged 73)

1800 ~ LUDWiG VAN BEETHOVEN led the premiere of his First Symphony in Vienna on the 2nd of April in 1800.

1805 ~ HANS CHRiSTiAN ANDERSEN the Danish author, fairy tale writer and poet was born on the 2nd of April in 1805 (died in 1875 aged 70). Hans Christian Anderson was best known for children’s stories such as The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, The Ugly Duckling and The Steadfast Tin Soldier. 

1891MAX ERNST the German painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and poet was born on the 2nd of April in 1891 (died in 1976 aged 84). Max Ernst was one of the primary pioneers of the Dada movement and Surrealism.

1912 ~ HERBERT MiLLS the American singer from The MiLLS BROTHERS was born on the 2nd of April in1912 (died in 1989)

1914 ~ ALEC GUiNNESS the English actor was born on the 2nd of April in 1914 (died in 2000 aged 86). Alec Guinness was best known as Herbert Pocket in Great Expectations (1946), Fagin in Oliver Twist (1948), Col. Nicholson in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957 winning Academy Award for Best Actor) Prince Faisal in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Yevgraf in Doctor Zhivago (1965), Professor Godbole in A Passage to India (1984) and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars.

1939 ~ MARViN GAYE the American singer was born on the 2nd of April in 1939 (died in 1984 aged 44).

1947EMMYLOU HARRiS the American singer was born on the 2nd of April in 1947.

1952 ~ PAT DRUMMOND the Australian singer-songwriter from The BUSHWACKERS was born on the 2nd of April in 1952.

1960SAM SEJAVKA the Australian writer, actor, song writer and lead singer of the ’80s Melbourne band Beargarden was born on the 2nd April 1960. Sam Sejavka grew up in Mount Waverley, a suburb of Melbourne, and started his music career as a vocalist and song writer in the band The Ears. The 1986 film Dogs in Space drew inspiration from various episodes of Sam’s life during the late ’70s, which was written and directed by Sam’s friend Richard Lowenstein. The Dogs in Space film title comes from a song of the same name by The Ears. The main character of Sam was played by Michael Hutchence.
