GOLD COAST 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES NEW Logo Launced (4 April 2013)
The logo for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in Gold Coast City, Queensland, Australia from the 4th April 2018, was officially unveiled today. Queensland’s Minister for the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey, was joined on stage by acting Gold Coast Mayor Donna Gates, Olympic champion Sally Pearson and swimming great Kieren Perkins, for the logo launch announcement.
The multi-coloured emblem / logo design was based on many months of research and development. The logo incorporates athletes which include a swimmer, a gymnast and a hurdler, plus the Q1 tower (Australia’s tallest building – Q1) is depicted in abstract form. The development of the logo incorporated local focus group workshops before engaging the brand and design company WiteKite to develop the artwork.
The logo has received some negative response from the Australian advertising and branding industry, but I think the final say belongs to the general public, who will embrace this new energetic, vibrant sports emblem, and proudly wear it on clothing, opposed to a minimalistic over simplified design usually done by the upmarket design studios for the corporate market. This is an excellent emblem for the sports lovers of Australia. ~ Anton K. Kressnig
