1819 – British explorer William Smith discovered the South Shetland Islands on the 19th February 1819, and claimed them in the name of King George III.

1878 – Thomas Edison patented the phonograph on the 19th February 1878.

1884 – More than 60 tornadoes hite the Southern United States on the 19th February 1884, one of the largest tornado outbreaks in U.S. history.
