1788 – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart completed his Symphony No. 40 in G minor on the 25th July 1788.

1837 – The first commercial use of an electrical telegraph was successfully demonstrated by William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone on the 25th July 1837, between Euston and Camden Town in London.

1868 – Wyoming became a United States territory on the 25th July 1868.

1920 – The first transatlantic two-way radio broadcast took place on the 25th July 1920.

1923 –  Estelle Getty the American actress was born on the 25th July 1923 (died 1923 aged 84). Estelle Getty was best known for her role as Sophia Petrillo on The Golden Girls (1985 – 1992), which won her an Emmy, and a Golden Globe on The Golden Palace (1992 – 1993) and on Empty Nest (1993 – 1995).  American actress (d. 2008)

1942 – Bruce Woodley the Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist  from The Seekers was born on the 25th July 1942.

1959 – SR.N1 hovercraft crossed the English Channel from Calais, France to Dover, England on the 25th July 1959, in just over 2 hours.

1965 – Bob Dylan went electric when he plugged in at the Newport Folk Festival on the 25th July 1965, signaling a major change in folk and rock music.

1967 – Matt LeBlanc the American actor was born on the 25th July 1967.

1973 – Soviet Mars 5 space probe was launched on the 25th July 1973.

1976 – Viking programViking 1 took the famous Face on Mars photo on the 25th July 1976.

1978 – Louise Brown the world’s first test tube baby was born on the 25th July 1978.

1984 – Salyut 7 cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya became the 1st woman to perform a space walk on the 25th July 1984.

2000 – Air France Flight 4590, a Concorde supersonic passenger jet, F-BTSC, crashed on the 25th July 2000, just after takeoff from Paris killing all 109 aboard and 4 on the ground.

2000Mason Cook the American actor was born on the 25th July 2000. He is known for his portrayal of Cecil Wilson in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

2010 – WikiLeaks published classified documents about the War in Afghanistan on the 25th July 2010, one of the largest leaks in U.S. military history.
