1888 ~ MAX STEiNER the Austrian composer was born on the 10th day of May in 1888 (d. 1971)

1899 ~ FRED ASTAiRE the American dancer and actor was born on the 10th day of May in 1899 (d. 1987)

1908 ~ MOTHER’S DAY was observed for the first time in the United States, in Grafton, West Virginia.

1927ROBERT KEARNS the inventor of the intermittent windshield wiper was born on the 10th May 1927. Robert’s windshield wiper systems were used on most automobiles from 1969 to current day. Robert Kearns won one of the best known patent infringement cases against Ford Motor Company (1978–1990) and also a case against Chrysler Corporation (1982–1992).

1940 ~ WiNSTON CHURCHiLL was appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

1994 ~ NELSON MANDELA was inaugurated as South Africa’s first black president on the 10th day of May in 1994.

1998SEACHANGE the Australian ABC television show was 1st broadcast on the 10th May 1998, until the 9th December 2000 (39 episodes). SeaChange starred Sigrid ThorntonDavid Wenham, Kerry ArmstrongJohn HowardWilliam McInnesTom Long, and directed by Michael Carson.
