DAMi iM’s dream came true when she became the 2013 WiNNER of The X FACTOR in Australia ~ Monday 28th October 2013

Dami Im the 25 year old South-Korean born Australian piano teacher and singer from Brisbane in Queensland won the 5th series grand final of Australian X Factor with her mentor Dannii Minogue on Monday the 28th October 2013. It was an underdog story, considering Dami the shy and awkward girl at the audition originally didn’t make it into the final 12, but returned with a wild card when the original top 12 finalist Matt Gresham withdrew from the competition. Dami beat Taylor Henderson and Jai Waetford, both mentored by Ronan Keating, in the grand final, to win a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

The STORY of DAMi’s iNSPiRATiONAL X FACTOR JOURNEY:

Dami’s X Factor dream began to come alive on Monday the 29th July 2013, when she sang Mariah Carey’s 1993 hit song Hero (Mariah’s version) in the live auditions, and received a standing ovation from all 4 judges, during her unexpected performance, as seen in this video…Dami progressed to the X Factor Super Bootcamp stage of the competition, after her amazing audition. On her 1st day of bootcamp, Dami was placed in the Under 25 Girls category (aged 24 at that time) and sang I’m with You (2002) by Avril Lavigne (Avril’s version) in front of her entire category and judges Dannii Minogue, Redfoo and Ronan Keating. On the 2nd day of X Factor Super Bootcamp, Dami was placed into an ensemble of 10 contestants to sing Next to Me by Emeli Sandé in front of the judges. Dami made it to the 3rd day of bootcamp, where she sang Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit song Jolene (Dolly’s version) to the judges and a live audience, but forgot the words during her performance, as seen in this video…After Dami’s disappointing part while performing Dolly Parton’s song Jolene (Dolly’s version), in the newly formed Over 24s category, she was ELiMiNATED!!.. this was the END of her X Factor dream!.. or was it??.. No it wasn’t, Dami was actually later called back for the X Factor Home Visits in New York City to replace Matt Gresham who decided he could not commit to the competition any longer. During Home Visits, Dami sang Beyoncé‘s 2008 hit song If I Were a Boy (Beyoncé’s version) in front of her mentor Dannii Minogue and guest mentor Kylie Minogue, as seen in this video…Dannii later selected Dami, along with Barry Southgate and Cat Vas, for the X Factor Live Finals: series of 10 weekly live shows in which contestants are progressively eliminated by public vote. For the Judges’ Choice-themed 1st live show, Dami sang U2’s 1992 hit song One (U2’s version), with her piano suspended above the stage, and received a standing ovation from all 4 judges, as seen in this video…

• Dami Im was born in South Korea on the 17th October 1988, and migrated to Australia when she was 9, with her mother, younger brother, and father Dong Eal who originally stayed in South Korea to support the family until he joined them.
• Dami began studying at the Young Conservatorium of Music program at Griffith University when she was 11 years old.
• Dami graduated from the University of Queensland with first class honours in a Bachelor of Music in 2009.
• Dami is also a violinist.
• Dami lives in Daisy Hill, Brisbane with her parents and husband Noah Kim.
• Dami is a music teacher: piano and vocals
• Dami has never been to a concert.
• Dami loves K-Pop (Korean Pop) and doesn’t know a lot of mainstream music, but loves Whitney Houston and Beyonce.
• Dami had a short career as a gospel singer in Korea.
• Dami released an album Dream in 2010, which was recorded to raise money for church endeavours, and released a Christmas album called Snow & Carol in 2011.
• Dami is a Christian and member of the Brisbane Full Gospel Church in Eight Mile Plains, Queensland.
• Dami married her husband Noah Kim (former Korean military serviceman) in Seoul, South Korea in 2012.
