1942 –  Ralph Rainger the award-winning composer and songwriter, along with 11 other passengers and crewmen died aboard an American Airlines DC-3 on the 23rd October 1942, when struck by a U.S. Army Air Forces bomber, near Palm Springs, California. Ralph Rainger was best known for his songs Thanks for the Memory, Love in Bloom, and Blue Hawaii.

1949 – Würzel the English singer and guitarist from Motörhead was born on the 23rd October 1949 (died 2011).
