1962 – NASA Relay 1 was launched on the 13th December 1962, becoming the 1st active repeater communications satellite in orbit.

1972 – Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt began the 3rd and final Extra-vehicular activity (EVA) or “Moonwalk” of Apollo 17 on the 13th December 1972, becoming the last humans to set foot on the Moon.

2003 – Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein was captured near his home town of Tikrit    on the 13th December 2003, during Operation Red Dawn.
