1207 – Rumi the Persian mystic and poet was born on the 30th September 1207 (died 1273).

1791 – The Magic Flute was first performed on the 30th of September in 1791, becoming the last opera by Mozart to make its debut. It took place at Freihaus-Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, Austria.

1832 – Ann Jarvis the American activist and co-founder of Mother’s Day was born on the 30th September 1832 (died 1905).

1860 – Britain’s 1st tram service began in Birkenhead, Merseyside on the 30th of September in 1860.

1895 – Madagascar became a French protectorate on the 30th of September in 1895.

1927 – Babe Ruth became the 1st baseball player to hit 60 home runs in a season on the 30th of September in 1927.

1931 – Angie Dickinson the American actress was born on the 30th September 1931.

1934Udo Jürgens the Austrian composer and singer was born in Klagenfurt, Austria on the 30th September 1934 (died aged 80 in 2014). 1946 – Claude Vorilhon the French UFO advocate and founder Raëlism was born on the 30th September 1946.

1947 – The World Series, featuring the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers, was televised for the first time on the 30th of September in 1947.

1947 – Marc Bolan the English singer-songwriter and guitarist from T. Rex was born on the 30th September 1947.

1954 – Barry Williams the American actor was born on the 30th September 1954.

1955 – James Dean died in a road accident on the 30th of September in 1955, aged 24.

1957 – Fran Drescher the American actress was born on the 30th September 1957.

1961 – Eric Stoltz the American actor, director, and producer was born on the 30th September 1961.

1964 – Robby Takac the American singer-songwriter and bass player from the Goo Goo Dolls was born on the 30th September 1964.

1965Thunderbirds premiered for the first time on British television on the 30th September 1965, but only in the ATV Midlands broadcasting region. Other ATV regions followed within 3 months, with ATV London commencing transmissions on the 25th December 1965. The children’s television series about a rescue organisation was inspired by a real life disaster rescue on the 7th November 1963, when 11 West German miners were rescued from a collapsed mine after surviving for 14 days, an event later known as the Wunder von Lengede (Miracle of Lengede).

1981Ashleigh Moore the Canadian child actress, who played Chrissy in the 1995 film Now and Then was born on the 30th September 1981 (died 10 December 2007 aged 26).

1982 – Lacey Chabert the American actress was born on the 30th September 1982.

1984 – Keisha Buchanan the English singer-songwriter from Sugababes was born on the 30th September 1984.

2004 – The 1st images of a live giant squid in its natural habitat were taken 600 miles south of Tokyo on the 30th of September in 2004.
