1947Alan Thicke the Canadian actor, comedian, songwriter, game and talk show host, best known as Jason Seaver in Growing Pains was born Alan Willis Jeffery in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada on the 1st March 1947. Alan Thicke is the father of singer-songwriter Robin Thicke.

1952 – Leigh Matthews the Australian footballer and coach was born on the 1st March 1952.

1954 – Ron Howard the American actor, director, and producer was born on the 1st March 1954.

1975Countdown the Australian music television show was first broadcast in colour on the 1st March 1975. The ABC broadcast Countdown from from the 8th November 1974 until  the 19th July 1987. Countdown was the most popular music program in Australian TV history.
