1918 ~ Norman Arthur Wakefield the Australian teacher, naturalist, paleontologist and botanist was born in Romsey, Victoria on the 28th November 1918 (died 1972). Norman Wakefield was notable as an expert on ferns, and described many new species of plants.
A Californian family were swept out to sea in 3 metre waves (10 foot surf) as they tried to rescue their dog Fran from the cold dangerous surf, at Big Lagoon beach in California.

The tragedy happened on the 26th November 2012, while Howard Kuljian and his family were out walking with their dog Fran on an overcast morning at Big Lagoon beach. They were throwing a stick for Fran to fetch at the water’s edge, when she was suddenly swallowed by a wave. Howard’s 16 year old son Gregory ran to save the family dog, but was taken by the surf as well. Howard aged 54 followed to save Gregory, then his wife Mary Scott aged 57 followed him to save him and their son, while their 18 year old daughter Olivia and Gregory’s girlfriend watched in horror on the shore.

Howard Kuljian’s body washed ashore, and rescuers eventually retrieved Mary Scott’s body, while Fran their dog made it back to shore on her own. Gregory Kuljian is missing, presumed dead.

1703 – The Great Storm of 1703, the greatest windstorm ever recorded in the southern part of Great Britain, reached its peak intensity on the 25th November 1703, and continued to the 27th November, with wind gusts up to 120 mph, killing 9,000 people.
1759 – An earthquake hit the Mediterranean destroying Beirut and Damascus on the 25th November 1759, killing over 30,000 people.
1833 – A massive undersea earthquake, estimated magnitude between 8.7-9.2 rocked Sumatra on the 25th November 1833, producing a massive tsunami all along the Indonesian coast.
1839 – A cyclone slammed India with high winds and a 40 foot storm surge on the 25th November 1839, destroying the port city of Coringa (which was never completely rebuilt). The storm wave swept inland, taking with it 20,000 ships and thousands of people. An estimated 300,000 deaths resulted from this disaster.

1926 – The deadliest November tornado outbreak in U.S. history struck on Thanksgiving day on the 25th November 1926. 27 twisters of great strength were reported in the Midwest, including the strongest November tornado, an estimated F4, that devastated Heber Springs, Arkansas. There were 76 deaths and over 400 injuries in total.
1950 – The Great Appalachian Storm of November 1950, known at the time as the “Storm of the Century” struck New England with hurricane force winds on the 25th November 1950, resulting in massive forest blow-downs and storm surge damage along the Northeast coast including New York City. Samantha Jade was born Samantha Jade Gibbs in Perth, Western Australia on the 18th April 1987. She has worked as a singer-songwriter, model, actress, and dancer. Samantha has written tracks for artists including JoJo and Ashley Tisdale. She began modelling at 4 years old, and won a talent show singing Amazing Gracewhen she was 9 years old. Samantha attended Hampton Senior High School. In 2002 her 1st studio recordings were made with Platinum mixer / producer Conley Abrams in Los Angeles, but the Perth label they were recorded for folded that same year. In 2003 her family moved to Los Angeles for Samantha to pursue her singing career, where she co-wrote Secret Love for JoJo on the Shark Talefilmsoundtrack in 2004. Also in 2004 Jade signed a multiple album recording contract with US record label Jive Records.

It was an underdog story, considering Dami the shy and awkward girl at the audition originally didn’t make it into the final 12, but returned with a wild card when the original top 12 finalist Matt Gresham withdrew from the competition.
